Thursday night I finally separted the tomato plants in the orange pot.
These are the plants I removed!
I took them to school with me and I planted them with the 2 year old kids. The children took a surprising interested. I wasn't worried if they didn't want to participate but they all came and watched.
I like children to learn about life's essential skills as early as possible, having grown up on a farm myself. It's great to get dirty!
This one I potted separately. We'll see how it goes.
And this is my sad, sad pot after I removed the plants!!
I think they need some TLC!
These are my tomatoes that have already been separated.
Hopefully the orange pot will resemble this in time!!
Look how big they've gotten!
And They have flowers!!
I'm so excited. Looking forward to eating my own tomatoes!!
BEANS!!
This is my sad bean plant. I'm trying so hard to keep it alive.
It's buddy unfortunately didn't make it, so now it's got the pot to it's self.
But.... I have good news!
Beans!!!!
This is my newest project.
I love those weeping, standard fuschia's you see when you visit a good plant nursery but they cost an absolute fortune!
We'll my partners Mum kindly donated some cutting to help me out. I'm planning to train it up the stake to resemble a standard. I've never done this before but it doesn't look too tricky.
This fuschia has a beautiful hanging flower with white and purples. I love this variety and I have noticed a few in people's gardens in my area so I'm guessing it will do well here.
All I have done is fill a $2 pot from Kmart with potting mix from Safeway (the cheapest one!). Make sure you get the tray to go underneath the pot, it stops the soil from drying out so fast. You may need to make a few extra holds in the pot for drainage. Then put a strong stake in the pot. I cut up a sadly neglected cutting at the parts where the leaves would start to come out, ( I forgot about it for a few days AFTER it was cut from the host plant!!!!) and shoved them in the soil. I watered it every day and then every odd week I'd use some seaweed solution. Now they are starting to grow!
I'm not sure how I'm going to get them to climb but I'll figure that out later down the track.
The tomato's look great! Good luck with the fuschia. I'm sure it'll come out well.
